| | DESCRIPTION | |
La Clergerie is a traditional 'mas et pierre' Normandy farmhouse built in 1706 and retains many original features and award winning gardens. It is set within a designated area of outstanding natural beauty - the Marais National Park on the Cotentin Peninsular of north-west Normandy, with easy access to Paris the UK and the Channel Islands; close to the D-day landing beaches and museums; the Bayeaux tapestry museum and a fast run to Mont St. Michel. Accommodation consists of the self-contained greater part of the farmhouse over two floors with private entrance. The first floor has a large family double size bathroom with Victorian roll-top bath, access to a private kitchen-diner in which you can prepare your own snacks if required (optional extra), as well as a private sitting room with satellite TV and dvd player. Stairs take you up to a galleried mezzanine reading area and the two bedrooms. Retaining original oak beams and cathedral ceilings, the airy and light bedrooms are both en-suite and can take up to two further single beds if required. Halogen spotlights and low level lighting throughout, rooms are heated with electric radiators. Rooms have been furnished to a high quality throughout, with silk drapes, antiques and original works of art. Price for each extra single bed in a room is 20 euros per night inclusive of breakfast for a child (under 16), 30 euros for an adult (16 and over). Cots are provided without charge but you must provide child's own bedding. Close to the main house, the recently restored charming Old Bakery in the gardens retains all its original features. It offers a further double-bedroom with en-suite facilities, as well as its own sitting room with TV satellite system, music system, sun terrace and fully equipped kitchen. It is available with or without breakfast. (Self-catering prices for longer stays on request.) This is the perfect place for a honeymoon with its own hot tub on the terrace ( optional extra ). The landscaped gardens are south facing, and received awards in 2007 from the Village in Flower and Tourist Board competitions. They are home to many varieties of wild life. Both accommodations have lovely views over the gardens and in the summer months are well equipped for outside dining and entertaining or relaxing. There are facilities for a bar-b-que and outside log fire. The price includes daily maid service and all rooms are equiped with electric heating, hairdryers, music systems, tea/coffee making facilities, air cooling fans and complimentary towelling robes for guests staying more than two days. Guests have use of their own kitchen to make snacks (optional extra). There is off road parking adjacent to the accommodation. Organic eggs and produce are used whenever possible from our own plots. Early risers will be charmed by pretty sunrises and the flight of deer across the valley on summer mornings. While La Clergerie is in a quiet rural position, yet it is close to many amenities, including golf courses, sailing schools and riding establishments. The region, while offering a fine range of facilities for the discerning traveller, is relatively unexplored. Yet we are close to some of the finest and cleanest beaches in North Western Europe, with pretty resorts a short drive to the west, including the family resort of Agon Coutainville, the cosmopolitan resort of Granville, the fortified sea port of St. Malo and the holy island of Mont St. Michel, still visited by pilgrims today. The beaches are sand-dune lined and to the west open around salt marsh sanctuaries full of birds and other wild life. A short trip to the east (about 30 minutes drive)takes you to the famous D.Day landing beaches, the moving US military cemetry at Colville-sur-Mer, as well as UK, Canadian and German cemetries. There is easy access to Bayeaux and its historic tapestry, and Caen where you can visit the stunning Peace Memorial Exhibition.Military personnel and their families are particularly welcome. William the Conqueror was born at Falaise just to the South, and there are many beautiful chateaux and abbeys to explore both on the coast and along the Vire valley. Guests can eat with us in the evening, or choose from many good sea food restaurants, which use locally caught produce. This includes high grade oysters harvested from our beaches. Or why not join local families on a Sunday outing as they dig at low tide for clams and shell fish for supper. We practice recycling and water conservation to the best of our ability in support of environmentally freindly green tourism. We have been four and five star independently rated by our international clientele. Here are some of the written comments received in 2007: "Barely a day goes buy without us remembering our wonderful honeymoon at La Clergerie". Mr and Mrs C from Wales. "We really appreciated the fine care and hospitality you gave to us." Mr and Mrs L, Southern California. "We have had such a lovely stay at La Clergerie. The bedroom we had is beautiful and the house is in such a tranquil setting. Thank you for all you did to make out stay so pleasant. We do hope we will get to visit you again". Rev and Mrs N, US airforce. "The most comfortable beds since we began our tour of France". Mr and Mrs K, Florida.
