| | DESCRIPTION | |
Bryan and Trish live in the beautiful South of France, in the historic town of Lodeve, gateway to the Mediterranean. Villa Jeanne is set in its own large gardens overlooking the river Lergue and is surrounded by mountains, forests and vineyards. The villa, once owned by a vigneron, has its own cave, complete with grape press and wine vats, where around 50,000 litres of wine were produced each year. The villa has first floor single, double or family rooms, all with en suite facilities. Villa Jeanne is within a few minutes' walk of Lodeve town, birthplace of the sculptor Paul Dardé (18881963) and the celebrated Cardinal de Fleury, prime minister of Louis XV. The people of Lodève are justifiably proud of their ancient cathedral of St Fulcran, parts of which date from the thirteenth century. In the town centre, there are bars and restaurants as well as plenty of shops selling a wide range of goods including ceramics, antiques, handmade leather, jewellery, art and sculpture.Over recent years, the Museum Art Gallery has gained national acclaim for its major art exhibitions.During the summer months, the town hosts a varied programme of festivities and events both cultural and sporting, as well as all sorts of markets which are always well worth a visit. Within easy reach, there are many picturesque old villages and ancient sites to visit - grottes, cirques, priories and medieval towns. The local lakes and rivers provide superb sunbathing, swimming, fishing, sailing and water sports, while walking, climbing, riding, tennis and golf are all adequately and readily catered for. The Mediterranean coast is just half an hours drive and the cosmopolitan city of Montpellier is only forty five minutes away. Ancient and modern easily combine to provide the perfect atmosphere for a really memorable visit to the South of France.
