The rooms are newly renovated and very clean. We have stayed in Amsterdam before and we loved staying in an area that was still close to everything but away from all the touristy noise. The local restaurants are far superior to those of the touristy areas as well. The breakfasts were more than plentiful with fresh croissants, jam, fruit, cheese & meats. The proprieters are so friendly & helpful, and go out of their way to please you. A bar fridge is stocked with orange juice, milk, water, and beer/wine. Wireless internet is also provided. Smoking is permitted in the room with the window(s) open. The rooms DO NOT smell of smoke. There are two rooms to let - the room on top floor is quite small but has an amazing view. The other room, on the 4th floor, is larger and over looks a children's playgound. With each room, you can hear the church bells chime. We are Canadians, ages 40 to 45, and would recommend this B&B to anyone! If you like B&B's, you won't be sorry. It was a pleasure!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Eelhouse. Our host was charming and very helpful with restaurant and transportation recommendations. Breakfast was wonderful. We loved having our own, quiet apartments in the heart of this quiet neighborhood -- close to everything, but out of the tourist noise and hussle.

A couple of negative comments would be that the street the B&B is located on, was under total construction, and the construction workers started working on the street at 7:15 or so in the morning and it was hard to sleep beyond that. Also, the B&B is an old building, and there are no elevators, and our room(s) were on the 4th and 5th floors, and the spiral staircase is very narrow and steep. It was a bit of a effort to haul all our baggage up the stairs, although the innkeepers lent a hand in helping us as best they could with the heavier luggage.

My first stay at a guesthouse anywhere in the world that I have traveled. But if this experience reflects the rest then I will look for them always. The hospitality and accomodations were outstanding. The "W" of the world could learn a great many things with a similar attitude.

I will never stay at a hotel again as a result of this experience. My hosts were absolutely wonderful, fantastic, extremely helpful, and very kind. Parking was not rated because it did not apply. The location was perfect - within a short walking distance to any of the public conveyances available in Amsterdam. Not only would I stay at the Eelhouse again, it is the ONLY place I would choose to stay for my next vacation to the Netherlands.

What a great time! While the street construction was a little inconvenient (as mentioned in another review) it did little to tarnish our experience. Klaas and Jelle could not have been more friendly and accommodating. We were disappointed when our cab arrived for the airport as we were in the middle of a terrific conversation with Jelle. We really weren't ready to come home. The room was cute, and very clean. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was happily anticipated each morning and the bottle of wine and afternoon snacks each day were an awesome touch. The location is safe, very quite, quaint and conveniently located to everything. Rates are very reasonable for Amsterdam and you get a lot for your money. We would certainly recommend the Eelhouse and look forward to our next opportunity to visit. Thanks Klaas and Jelle for helping make our trip one we will never forget! Didn't need to park a car but suspect it might be impossible in the neighborhood, also quite irrelevant for Amsterdam. Wonderful experience- highly recommend it!

I would only add that the boys who run the Eelhouse - Jay & Klaas - are first class hosts who instantly ensure that your stay in their gorgeous guest house is as comfortable as you would be in your own home. Their's is an oasis, a sanctuary, nestled amongst the heart of Amsterdam's hurly burly; one also feels a million miles from anywhere. Do not stop in this city and not breathe in the air of the Eel House; even for a night.

Right in the heart of one of the most turistic districts but quiet and safe at the same time. Conveniently close to the city centre, shopping areas and most points of interest (on foot, by means of public transport or bike). My lodge of choice everytime I'm in Amsterdam.

The parking situation was due to road contruction and was not something under the control of the faciltiy. We found the accomodations to be full of personality, charm and were very welcoming. The breakfasts and other ammenities were far superior to anything we have ever experienced. The owner was very friendly and accomodating. It is also located in a very nice area in Amsterdam.

I am sure the grounds are usually as beautiful as the building itself, but the entire street on one side of the building was torn-up with construction. This is beyond the control or of the inn owners. When the construction is complete, surely it will be beautiful there on all ends. It is truely a wonderful place to stay and near everything one could want. The hosts are the most accommodating I have had the pleasure of meeting.

After spending a day wandering throught the streets of Amsterdam, the Eelhouse was a welcome haven. The neighborhood is quite and peaceful, a welcome relief to the hustle and bustle of the downtown area. Each morning we were greeted with a delicious breakfast, it was a great way to start our day. The room is small but exquisitely furnished, with probably the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in. But the best part is the view out your window. Being able to open your windows and look out upon the neighborhood and the spire of the Westerkerk (sp?) Church made everything magical. Of course J and Klaas were the greatest of hosts, looking after our every need. I would highly recommend the Eelhouse to anyone looking for a comfortable place to stay, centrally located and situated in a nice neighborhood. When we return we know where we'll be staying! Hey, here there are these two very friendly and helpful guys living on the ground floor, fulfilling every side-wish that may arise in a (normal)tourist mind (like ours). We loved the top room, being able to look out over the city an see the Westerkerk. Quiet yet very close to the City Centre, breakfast served to the room: a very good place to stay for a peaceful and refreshing vacation in Amsterdam. We would definitely book there again, and hopefully, we will.

Jay and Klaas are outstanding hosts. My husband and I wanted a couple of days to ourselves to relax and unwind. We could not have chosen a better place. The room and bathroom were immaculately clean. The room was comfortable, warm and inviting. By our third day in Amsterdam, we wanted to just stay in bed and nap all day long. What makes the Eel House even more special is the fact that it is close to all of the tourist attractions and the excitement of the city of Amsterdam, but it is also nestled far enough away that when one wants a little peace, quiet and sanity, one can just walk back to the Eel House and unwind. Breakfast was delicious each morning and what was even better is that we didn't have to get out of bed, looking ragged and greet someone we didn't know in order to get it (That is what I hate about room service in hotels. You feel like you have to get up and shower in order to answer the door!) They had coffee, tea, wine, snacks and water available at all times which was a fabulous touch. I would highly recommend the Eel House and would love to visit again someday. Laura E. Montenegro

The attention to the smallest of details, a frige that is restocked daily(without additional charge), the rooms are bright and clean, well decorated, bathrooms immaculate. Breakfast is an event by anyone's standards, Enough to serve a family. These guys are doing an amzing job of making people feel comfortable and relaxed while they stay with them. Staying at the Eeelhouse was a highlight of our stay, and a welcome respite after a full day (and night) of sightseeing and activity in Amsterdam. Centrally located and within easy walking distance to most attractions, yet in a nice residential neighborhood and peaceful as well. The room was very comfortable and clean, with every detail efficiently and carefully thought of. We looked forward to our wonderful Dutch breakfasts every morning, and of course Klaas and Jay were simply amazing hosts. We told all our friends about the Eelhouse, and cannot wait for them to join us there on group vacations. We stayed in December 2004 and found the place to be very clean, very cosy and in a great location. The Jordaan really is a hip place. The bed is also very comfortable - not your standard hotel/hospital deal but a REAL bed with lots of pillows and a snuggly comforter. TV with English, Dutch, French and Italian stations. Breakfasts are plentiful and yummy. Just what you need to start off your day of walking and discovering the great town that Amsterdam is... The people are also as kind as can be. Klaas also held oru bags for two days, as we went into Belgium. The location is perfect, as you are in a quiet neighborhood, yet only minutes away, on foot, to Dam Square, the very hear of A'dam.
