1 (16-ounce) loaf of French bread, cubed
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, cut into pieces
6 large eggs
2 cups milk
2 cups half-and-half
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup maple syrup
Arrange half the French bread in a lightly greased 13x9" pan. Sprinkle with cheese pieces and top with remaining bread.
Whisk together eggs and remaining ingredients; pour over bread mixture. Cover and chill 8 hours.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until set.
Makes 8-10 servings.
5 large ripe pears
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup orange juice (enough to make 1/2 inch of liquid in baking dish)
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Pinch of ground Cloves
Vanilla ice cream
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 10x15" baking dish with Pam. Spread the brown sugar over the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle generously with the spices. Slice pears in half; remove cores and stems. Lay pears cut side down on sugar mixture. Pour orange juice over pears. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until pears are tender.
To serve: Ladle some of juice mixture onto serving plate and place pear, cut side up, on plate. Place a small scoop of vanilla ice cream in center of pear.

Batter:
8 eggs
1 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tbl. brown sugar
pinch of salt
2 cups milk
4 tbl. melted butter
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Mix first 6 ingredients in a blender. Add butter and nutmeg. Let stand 30 minutes or overnight in refrigerator.
Apple Mixture:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup apple juice
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 large tart apples (Granny Smith)
Melt butter in a small saucepan. Add next 4 ingredients. Stir and let simmer. Slice apple and add to mixture. Let mixture cook for 2 minutes.
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13x9" baking dish. Spread apple mixture evenly over bottom of baking dish. Gently pour batter over apples. Bake for 35 minutes. Serve with syrup. Makes 8-10 servings.
