INFORMATION ABOUT PORTLAND | |
The town of Portland is centrally located between Ottawa and Kingston. Its location on the shores of Big Rideau Lake, the largest lake in the Rideau Waterway, makes it a major boating center. It is a very active community providing bed and breakfast travelers with a vast array of services including antique stores, gift and collectable shops, art gallery, restaurants and 4 marinas. Visit one of the Rideau Canal Waterway lock stations or the Lockmaster’s House Museum. Check out the lake if you like fishing, boating and swimming or stay ashore with a game of golf. Hike the Rideau or Cataraqui Trails, bicycle back roads or trails. With numerous festivals throughout the year, such as the Delta Maple Syrup Festival, Elgin Days and Chaffey’s Locks Corn roast, there is something for every taste. |
